The countdown is on to major changes for business under the General Data Protection Regulation

  • The countdown is on to major changes for business under the General Data Protection Regulation
  • Employers in Limerick should attend the SFA Employment Law Conference for advice on how to prepare

SFA Director, Sven Spollen-Behrens commented “The clock is ticking, counting down to the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which introduces major new obligations on businesses of all sizes. It is one of the most significant legislative changes for business in many years, yet a staggering 70% of businesses are unaware of when the GDPR will become effective.”

The Small Firms Association is calling on small businesses to take action now by:
  • Spreading awareness of GDPR among their employees
  • Conducting a data protection audit of all data held by the business
  • Reviewing data protection notices
  • Reviewing data protection policies
  • Reviewing data security procedures
  • Considering whether they will need to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO)

Spollen-Behrens continued “It is only when a business conducts an audit on the data it has that managers will begin to understand the magnitude of the task that lies ahead. Employers who want to know what their obligations are and how to prepare their businesses can get practical advice from GDPR experts at the SFA Employment Law Conference in the Castletroy Hotel on 20 September."
