· SFA National Small Business Awards Finalists Masterclass takes place in Athlone
· A vibrant Small Business sector is core to our future economic wellbeing
Thirty one of the best small businesses throughout the length and breadth of Ireland are undertaking a Masterclass in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone this weekend, as part of their prize-package for being short-listed as finalists in the “SFA National Small Business Awards 2013” competition. Patricia Callan, SFA Director commented: “Participants will be immersed in an entrepreneurial environment that is sure to stimulate ideas for development and growth. As well as hearing from an expert panel of presenters, companies will be able to share experiences and learn both from the achievements and the mistakes of others, which is often the best learning”.
The aim of the awards is to celebrate the achievements of small business in Ireland, and to recognise the vital contribution of the small business sector to Irish industry.
“In these challenging times, it has been great to see so many small companies positively focused on the growth of their businesses which really gives me confidence that small business will be the vital force in our economy in the coming years”, commented Callan.
The finalists are competing across six categories (manufacturing, food & drink, services, outstanding small business with less than 5 employees, innovator of the year and environmental sustainability) and for the title of Overall Small Business of the Year 2013, which will be presented at a Gala Event in March. Also in attendance at the masterclass are representatives from 5 recently established businesses that have been chosen to be featured as the best Emerging New Businesses. These companies have been in operation for less than two years.
An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, TD, who is Patron of the Awards, stated that “Small businesses and entrepreneurs play a crucial and often underestimated role in our economy. The SFA National Small Business Awards enable us to reward and showcase Ireland’s entrepreneurial talent. I am confident that the talent and energy of Irish entrepreneurs highlighted through these awards will provide the basis for Ireland's re-emergence as a strong and successful economy.”
