30 of the best small businesses in Ireland, from 13 different counties, are undertaking a Strategic Management Masterclass in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone, this weekend, as part of their €50,000 prize package for being short-listed as finalists in the “SFA National Small Business Awards 2017.” The aim of the awards is to celebrate the achievements of small business in Ireland, and to recognise the vital contribution of the small business sector to Irish industry.
Patricia Callan, SFA Director said: “Participants will be immersed in an entrepreneurial environment that is sure to stimulate ideas for development and growth. As well as hearing from an expert panel of presenters, companies will be able to share experiences and learn both from the achievements and the mistakes of others, which is often the best learning.”
Speaking at the Awards launch, An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, TD, who is patron of the programme said, “Small Firms have been central to Ireland’s recovery. I am delighted to support the SFA Awards again this year. Across Ireland there are thousands of people who go to work every day in small firms and they play an important role in our economy. It is fantastic to have these Awards to highlight the success of many Irish businesses and their constant drive to improve and seek new markets. The government will continue to support small firms and have made them a key part of our Regional Action Plan to spread the recovery to every region of Ireland.”
The SFA National Small Business Awards are now in their thirteenth year. The finalists are competing across seven categories - manufacturing, food and drink, services, innovator of the year, sustainable energy, small business exporter of the year and outstanding small business, (for those with less than five employees) - and for the title of Overall Small Business of the Year 2017, which will be presented at a Gala Event on 1 March 2017 in the RDS. Also in attendance at the masterclass are representatives from five recently established businesses that have been chosen to be featured as the best Emerging New Businesses. Category Sponsors include AIB, Bord Bia, DHL, Energia, Enterprise Ireland, IE Domain Registry, SEAI and 3. Skillnets are the Management Development Partner for the programme.
