In addition with the increased focus from an EU and national level to provide greater flexibility in the workplace so that employees can take time off work to care for their family, parent's and other relatives, we have produced a sample flexible working policy that clearly sets out the process for considering requests for part time or other flexible working arrangements.

Maternity leave sample policy and notification form

The Maternity Protections Act 1994 and 2004 entitles female employees to 26 weeks paid maternity leave and 16 weeks for additional maternity leave which is unpaid. There is no obligation on the employer to provide maternity pay. It is recommended that employers draft a maternity leave policy so that all staff are aware of their rights and obligations under the Maternity Protections Act. The Paternity Leave and Benefits Act 2016 allows "relevant parents" to avail of 2 weeks paternity leave for children born/placed on or after 1st September 2016. It is advisable that employers draft a paternity leave policy to ensure that all staff are made aware of their rights and obligations under the new legislation. Parent's Leave sample policy and notification form

The Parent's Leave and Benefit Act was enacted on 24 October 2019 and it provides 2 weeks paid Parent's Leave for each parent. It applies to all children born or adopted on or after 1 November 2019. The benefit is paid for by the state and applies to both employees and the self-employed. SFA Guideline on Parental and Force Majeure Leave

The SFA guideline on Parental and Force Majeure Leave outline the leave entitlements, service requirements and other relevant information for employees who wish to take unpaid parental leave or for those who need to take force majeure leave in the case of an unforseen family illness or injury. It is expected that as of 1 November 2019, a paid Parental Leave and Benefit Act will come into force which will entitle each parent to two week's paid parental leave to be taken within the first 52 weeks of the birth/adoption of the child. ..
